- 2 large onions, peeled and finely chopped
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/2 cup milk
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- For the Cajun Ranch Sauce:
- 1/2 cup ranch dressing
- 1–2 tsp Cajun seasoning (to taste)
- 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix chopped onions, flour, baking powder, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
- Gradually add milk, stirring until a thick, sticky batter forms.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Using a spoon or scoop, carefully drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid crowding.
- Fry for 3–4 minutes, or until golden and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- In a small bowl, mix ranch dressing with Cajun seasoning. Add parsley if desired.
- Serve onion balls hot with Cajun ranch sauce for dipping.
Notes
- For milder flavor, reduce Cajun seasoning in the sauce.
- To bake instead of fry: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C), place balls on a greased baking sheet, and bake for 15–20 minutes, flipping halfway through.
- Serve immediately for best crunch.
