Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Onion Balls:
    • 2 large onions, peeled and finely chopped
    • 1 cup all-purpose flour
    • 1 tsp baking powder
    • 1 tsp salt
    • 1/2 tsp black pepper
    • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
    • 1/2 tsp paprika
    • 1/2 cup milk
    • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • For the Cajun Ranch Sauce:
    • 1/2 cup ranch dressing
    • 12 tsp Cajun seasoning (to taste)
    • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix chopped onions, flour, baking powder, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
  2. Gradually add milk, stirring until a thick, sticky batter forms.
  3. Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot to 350°F (175°C).
  4. Using a spoon or scoop, carefully drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid crowding.
  5. Fry for 3–4 minutes, or until golden and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  6. In a small bowl, mix ranch dressing with Cajun seasoning. Add parsley if desired.
  7. Serve onion balls hot with Cajun ranch sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • For milder flavor, reduce Cajun seasoning in the sauce.
  • To bake instead of fry: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C), place balls on a greased baking sheet, and bake for 15–20 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  • Serve immediately for best crunch.
