Description
This Old-Time Oven Peach Cobbler features tender peaches in a sweet syrup, topped with a golden, buttery biscuit crust. A nostalgic dessert that’s perfect served warm with vanilla ice cream.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups sliced fresh or canned peaches
- 1 cup granulated sugar (for peach filling)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar (for batter)
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup milk
- Ground cinnamon (for garnish, optional)
- Vanilla ice cream (for serving, optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and set aside.
- In a saucepan, combine the sliced peaches and 1 cup of sugar. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until peaches are tender and sugar is dissolved.
- In another saucepan, melt the butter over low heat.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, remaining 1 cup of sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir in the milk and melted butter until a smooth batter forms.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish.
- Spoon the peach mixture and its juices evenly over the batter.
- Sprinkle ground cinnamon on top, if desired.
- Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and cooked through.
- Serve warm, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Notes
- Frozen peaches can be used—just thaw and drain them first.
- Canned peaches in light syrup work well and save time.
- For a crispier topping, sprinkle a little sugar on the batter before baking.
- Best served warm, but also delicious at room temperature.
