- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup water
- 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 teaspoon almond extract
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- For the frosting:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup milk
- 4 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Sliced almonds for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease and flour a 15×10-inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt.
- In a saucepan, combine butter and water; bring to a boil, then remove from heat.
- Pour hot butter mixture over dry ingredients and mix until well combined.
- Add lightly beaten eggs, sour cream, almond extract, and vanilla extract; stir until smooth.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool slightly in the pan.
- For the frosting, heat butter and milk in a saucepan until melted and hot (do not boil).
- Remove from heat and stir in powdered sugar, almond extract, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Pour warm frosting over the warm cake and spread evenly.
- Sprinkle with sliced almonds, if desired. Cool slightly before serving.

- Frost the cake while it’s still warm so the frosting sets smoothly and forms a slight glaze.
- Store covered at room temperature for up to 2 days, or refrigerate for longer freshness.
- For an extra almond kick, add a few drops of almond extract to the cake batter.
