Ingredients
1 lb ground beef
Salt and pepper to taste
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 large onion, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons butter
4 slices Swiss cheese
8 slices rye bread
1/4 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons ketchup
1 tablespoon mustard
1 tablespoon pickle relish
Instructions
In a bowl, combine ground beef, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Form into 4 patties.
In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook until caramelized, about 10-15 minutes. Remove and set aside.
In the same skillet, cook the patties for 4-5 minutes per side, or until cooked to your desired doneness. Top each patty with a slice of Swiss cheese and let it melt.
While the patties cook, mix together mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, and pickle relish to create the secret sauce.
Toast the rye bread slices in the skillet until golden brown.
Assemble the patty melts by spreading secret sauce on each slice of rye bread. Place a cheese-topped patty on 4 slices, add caramelized onions, and top with the remaining bread slices.
